Any member of the Christian faithful has a right to obtain a certificate of a sacrament received. Only that person, or the parents of a minor, or a legal guardian have this right. Certificates may also be released to another Catholic Church where the person is receiving a new sacrament. Requests for certificates should be submitted in writing and must bear the signature of the person whose certificate is being requested. Once a request has been processed, the individual may pick up their certificate in person for the Cathedral’s Parish Office with a valid photo ID or it may be mailed to the individuals home parish. The certificate may also be mailed directly to the parish requesting the certificate. No information from sacramental registers may be provided by telephone or for genealogy purposed.
Genealogy requests should be directed to the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis at https://www.archspm.org/archives-and-records/genealogical-research.

Marriage is the blessed sacrament of becoming one and growing together in faith. At the Cathedral of Saint Paul, your first step prior to arranging any of the other details of your wedding is to contact our Wedding Coordinator, Libby Mahowald, at [email protected]. She will outline the requirements of marriage preparation for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul Minneapolis, as well as specific details for weddings at the Cathedral.
To be married at the Cathedral of Saint Paul, one or both persons of the engaged couple must be an active, registered Cathedral parishioner for at least six months prior to requesting a wedding date. An offering for the use of the Cathedral in the amount of $1,250 (which includes a wedding coordinator, organist, cantor and security staff) will also be required. Marriage preparation classes at the Cathedral are free of charge, but couples are expected to attend an Archdiocesan retreat and a Natural Family Planning Course, both of which have a fee.
If you know of any parish member or family member who is homebound, hospitalized, and in need of a pastoral care visit and Holy Communion from one of our Cathedral Priests, Deacons or Befrienders, call the parish office at 651-228-1766 with the name and contact information of the person. Today’s privacy laws do not permit hospitals to contact churches unless specifically requested. We are made aware of it only when the individual or their friends or family contact us.
“The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient. When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age.” ~from the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults
